‘Puli Murugan’ – the recent blockbuster film of Mohan Lal and the biggest ever hit of Malayalam industry is nothing more than a ‘run of the mill’ masala movie.
Even though the film seems to be promising in the initial moments showing the childhood life of the protagonist and the scene where he hunts a man hunter, the director choses to progress the film with ‘gap-fillers’ and gimmicks mostly in the later scenes; we see awkward characters like the one which peeks into ladies bathroom anytime (played by Suraj Venjaramoodu), a character that wants to lay his bed in wife all-time, the scenes and flashback involving Namitha which does not add any value or add to the entertainment quotient at all – the film is filled with such pointless scenes and characters alone.
There is no interesting twists and turns or at-least a decent progress in the screenplay; the script goes nowhere even till the post interval scenes. The saving graces of the film are the majestic Lalettan himself, the VFX work in the forest portions and the well-choreographed stunt scenes!
‘Puli Murugan’ might be a treat for ardent Mohan Lal fans and others who could enjoy content-less masala. For others, it is just another commercial film.
