Post the success of the interesting courtroom drama ‘Jolly LLB’, Director Subhash Kapoor is back with its sequel starring Akshay Kumar in lead role. In comparison to the core plot and the courtroom arguments, the first part is the best; but still, there is not much complaints about this sequel as it is completely enjoyable and is as good as the first part on the whole as an entertainer.
‘Jolly LLB 2’ follows almost the same pattern of narration and screenplay, where an unsuccessful lawyer tries to hit it big someday – tries to take a shortcut and later realizes his mistake and fights bravely in a case for justice (standing against a senior lawyer). The first half of ‘Jolly LLB 2’ moves in a brisk pace (unlike its prequel which got deviated from its plot with too many songs in first half), whereas the second half is engaging with some good courtroom arguments (except for a few stretched drama). Few characters like Justice Sunderlal Tripathi and Guru Ji (Sanjay Mishra) from the first half are retained and are used efficiently. The let-downs of ‘Jolly LLB 2’ are the scenes involving Huma Qureshi which does not make any difference at all and the songs (even though there are just 3 songs, they act as a speed breaker only). Another minus is that due to some over dosage of humour, the film does not have a lasting impact on the audience unlike the first part.
Coming to performance, comparisons comes in easily since there has been major casting changes in this sequel. Sayani Gupta as Hina steals the show even though her role is very small and that she appears in just 3, 4 scenes. Evan though Akshay Kumar as Jagdishwar Mishra could not match the energy and oomph of Arshad Warsi as Jagdish Tyagi, he delivers a convincing performance. Thinking of the seamless performance by Boman Irani as a callous advocate, Annu Kapoor falls short. Saurabh Shukla who won a national award for his brilliant performance in the prequel, does a great job yet again!
‘Jolly LLB 2’ is a worthy sequel!
