Sachin : A Billion Dreams – Movie Review

Sachin A Billion Dreams - Movie Review (1)
‘Sachin: A Billion Dreams’
– this docudrama-biographical film directed by James Erskine does not fails to give us countless number of goosebumps right from the title card. This documentary primarily focuses on showing the transformation of a notorious kid to a focused cricketer, Sachin‘s incomparable achievements and his dream since childhood to win the world cup for his country.

In a country where Sachin is celebrated as the ‘God of Cricket’, the question at the time of a match is not ‘What is the score?’ but ‘Is Sachin still playing?’; the answer for that question is India’s hope and it decides a match’s success and failure. This film could be a priceless time-machine to the ardent fans of Sachin and people born in the 1990s and late 1980s, which would take them on a beautiful journey down memory lane. A.R.Rahman‘s sound tracks and the background score were just scintillating!

The film also speaks about the hardships, the inner struggle and the never-lessening pressure that Sachin faced from the media, fans and committee. The comments he received at the time he too charge as the Captain, Sachin being removed from the captain-ship without even a proper information to him, the injuries in his body that stopped him from giving his fullest, the match-fixing scam, the unexpected loss in the 2003 World cup final and Team India’s most under-performed 2007 World cup matches (with Greg Chappell shuffling the batting order completely for no reason) – this docudrama covers every such thing.

The film captures Tendulkar’s cricket and personal life in substantial detail, even some of which have never been heard of or seen before. At the same time, the film has failed to talk about Sachin‘s efficiency as a good bowler though; also, there could have been more detailing on the match fixing scams which put down the Indian cricket team into one of its worst phases ever!

Sachin: A Billion Dreams – A must watch biographical docudrama!
